Living East is the Cultural Consortium for the East of England.
It was set up to create an integrated cultural strategy for our region. The concept behind a regional cultural strategy is simple. There are many agencies involved in sport, the arts, tourism, museums, libraries, archives, heritage and the creative industries. These organisations generate and support a massive amount of activity in our region.
Culture in its widest sense brings depth and meaning to our lives, whether that's supporting our football team, going to a concert, visiting a historic house or taking a book out of a library. But as well as bringing pleasure and adding quality to our lives good cultural provision also makes our towns and villages attractive places to live, which in turn will encourage new businesses to start up or re-locate.
Cultural activity is also a strong weapon in the fight against inequality and deprivation. Wouldn't it be a good idea if these activities were co-ordinated to achieve maximum benefit? This is what we hope our strategy does, and it's been warmly welcomed. Now we are setting about the business of implementing it across the East of England. We need your help to do this. We need your suggestions, your co-operation and your support. This new site will be a major vehicle for putting across what we need to say and getting back what we need to hear. We will update it frequently and make it as relevant as possible
